Freight Coordinator

Reports To: Operations Manager
Revision Date: 3/2/2018

Position Overview:
This is a fast paced, interactive logistics oriented role. Freight Coordinators will work with customers, drivers, and dispatchers. Individuals will possess excellent verbal and written communication and multi-tasking skills, be proficient at utilizing software programs to price freight, track loads, and be accountable to provide information. Individuals will provide a superior experience and manage customer and carrier relationships to maximize the benefits of all business transactions. Freight Coordinators contact third party freight carriers to negotiate pricing and coordinate delivery of assigned loads. Contacting new carriers that meet Kirsch safety and service standards and forming strong relationships to use on future shipping needs is critical in this role.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Possess in depth knowledge of the transportation industry, to include over-the-road trucking and supply chain logistics
2. Cover all loads on-time, by utilizing third party capacity and carrier partners
3. Ensure the carrier used has proper operating authority, insurance, W-9, and signed contract
4. Obtain regular updates for carriers and keep load status updated on website at all times, which will include Kirsch internal monitoring software via McLeod and customer Transportation Management System (TMS)
5. Keep load status updated and communicated to customer
6. Secure third party capacity for all loads & partner carriers
7. Handle rate negotiation with carriers and customers on a daily basis
8. Network with others to match capacity with available loads, and assist other team members as needed
9. Monitor daily progress of all carriers and loads
10. Manage designated accounts as assigned by Kirsch leadership
11. Solicit new business opportunities through networking, end users, carriers and general search
12. Obtain billing information from any new customer to ensure proper invoicing
13. Communicate all potential business development opportunities to Operations Manager
14. Assist in acquisition and transfer of carrier information to Carrier Qualifications
15. Attain POD for each Kirsch Transportation load delivered when required
16. Report all customer / carrier critical issues to Operations Manager immediately to mitigate further issues

2. Strong negotiation skills
3. Good problem solving skills and utilize sound financial judgment to protect Kirsch best interest
4. Ability to work independently and in a team environment
5. Ability to maintain motivation and energy for cold calling and prospecting carriers
6. Strong work ethic, fast learner with attention to accuracy
7. Self starter and motivated to achieve
8. Excellent phone presence and effective interpersonal communication skills
9. Proficient with PC, phones and multiple computer and web based applications
