Kent Sims, Heavy Haul & Over Dimensional Services Manager
Hometown: Red Oak, IA
How I got into the business: John Kirsch was a friend of a friend and mentioned they needed some temporary help as the business was growing quickly. Once in the office, watching Matt and John in action peaked my interest in the industry. It’s crazy to think, what started as a 2-week temporary job, has grown into almost 15 years of service.
The toughest part of the job: Being a broker puts you right in the middle of the upswings and downswings of the market. Those can be tough to maneuver through with out a few hard knocks.
The best advice I have received: Always under promise and over serve.
Something else I’d like to accomplish: Learn another language.
Book I finished reading recently: People Buy You, by Jeb Blount
How my business will change in the next decade: Continued e-commerce, autonomous trucks, electric trucks, efficient tracking, and less down time are just a few innovations to come through increased technology development. Even with all this technology, nothing will replace human interaction. We’ll continue to learn and adapt together.
The best part of the job: The opportunity to meet and work with people from all parts of the country and world. You never know who’s on the phone or what their background is, it’s always interesting to hear the stories and hardships people have endured to see their American dreams come true.
A mentor who has helped the most in my career: Matt & Cam Kirsch have taught me so much and continue to do so.
Outside interest: Live music, playing vinyl records, golfing, husker football, target shooting, fishing, and camping are just a few. It has also been a lot of fun helping my 3 and 5 year old sons start to develop their interests.

Fun fact about you: I prefer driving instead of flying whenever possible. I don’t have a fear of flying, I just don’t like the feeling of being herded around like cattle and wasting time in an airport. Of course there’s times you just can’t avoid it, but there’s nothing better than a good old fashion road trip!
